* Valerian is a cold season perennial that is ideal for sowing in cooler weather!

* Valerian, also known as the sleep herb, has been used for centuries as a medicinal herb.  Its efficacy as a sleep aid or potential cure for Insomnia has been widely documented.

* Valerian can be a catnip replacement for cats

* Valerian is a Non-GMO, Open-Pollinated herb that is often combined with other herbs to create a relaxation inducing tea.

* It is very fragrant and is commonly used in complex perfume recipes.

* It attracts pollinators like butterflies and bees.  

* Many predatory insects need the rich nectar of valerian flowers.  These hugely beneficial insects will help rid your garden of all the sap sucking vicious creatures that torment us poor gardeners!

* The roots, as well as the leaves, are used as a natural sleep inducer and is reputed to be an excellent remedy for insomnia and is quite often used for supposed calming purposes.

* Valerian is widely used in Ayurvedic,  traditional Chinese herbal practices and in Unani.  They use it for Sedative and heart health reasons.

* Valerian can be grown in containers and window boxes in small spaces like apartment balconies.  Just make sure it is a large container to allow for the root rhizome to develop and it'll thrive.

* Valerian is really good in moist, damp soil with a high clay content for water retention.  It can also perform very well in alternative gardening setups like Hydroponics and Aquaponics.

* Always consult a Physician before using herbs as a medicinal or herbal remedy!

* Valerian has an ornamental appeal and will look nice in the back of a border with its height.

Seeds are packaged in a small poly bag. In an effort to keep costs low, and pass the savings onto you, we do not offer specific planting directions on seed packets. If you cannot locate planting instructions for your specific conditions, contact us and we'll do our best to instruct you on the proper methods.
