Welcome to Antiques & Moore!

This listing is for a nice antique American Sterling Silver Art Nouveau Period match safe/vesta case, c. 1890.

This attractive match safe is engraved with a winged maiden on each side in high relief inside a cartouche for monogram (unused). The design covers almost the entire front and back of this lovely case.  Case has a match striker on the bottom. The hinge is tight and the lid opens and closes tightly.

The case is in very good condition for its age with no problems on the front or back but does have some very minor dents on the curved corners and one more noticeable dent on the middle of one side on the bottom section. Case has nice original patina and the case wear is commensurate with age.

Marked "Sterling" on interior lip edge on both sides with initial "G". The previous collector has a note inside case with attribution to F. S. Gilbert. We have not researched this attribution but will include the card with case.

 Measures 2 1/2" long, 1 5/8" wide and 3/8" deep. Weighs 20 grams.
