#26 - 3 Cents 1857-60 Issue, George Washington, produced by Toppan, Carpenter, Casilear & Co., in a Brownish Carmine shade, with centerline to left, 3 margins.

Manila cover (139 x 78mm), flap intact (neatly sliced open at top), no contents, stamp tied/cancelled by large black "PAID" in grid (Boston type), with adjacent red Boston 23 mm CDS and large black "3" (12 mm) to left of stamp.  Pencil notation "X" at upper left, no docketing.

Addressed to "N. Bateman, Esq., Springfield, Ill."
