Welcome to Antiques & Moore!

This listing is for a gorgeous Minton china large hand painted pitcher decorated with orchids, c. 1872.

This unusual pitcher is a large size pitcher that would have originally been used as part of a pitcher and wash bowl set. The pitcher is decorated with an all-over design of gilded flowers on a brick/rust colored background on a cream colored body with a large medallion on the front and back decorated with a large and colorful hand painted orchid in the center with a different orchid design on each side. The rim, neck, handle and both medallions are bordered with a gilt band.

Measures 10 1/2" high, about 9 1/2" wide (including handle) with an overall depth of about 8".  The base measures 5 1/4" in diameter. Weighs 3.4 pounds.

This lovely pitcher is marked with the English Registry stamp which would date it accurately with the date of production, however, the incised stamp became illegible at production which is common with porcelain/ceramic items.

The pitcher is in excellent Estate condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. There are a couple of minor no-harm spots were the gilding is slightly worn and a couple of very small nicks in the  rust color enamel. Overall the condition is considered excellent commensurate with age and normal wear.

Although we do not have the original wash bowl to match this pitcher, it would look gorgeous used with a plain cream colored bowl.
