Mozart's "Sinfonia Concertante" was inspired by his visit to Paris where this unique form was very popular. Composed in 1779 as a large scale double concerto, this absolute masterpiece features a solo violin and viola which are played by David Oistrakh and his son Igor on this 1963 original DECCA recording. The Moscow Philharmonic, conducted by Kyril Kondrashin, provides an accompaniment of unfailing sensitivity and depth, matching a father/son duet of breathtaking poetry.
