International Buyers – PLEASE READ:

  • This item will ship USPS Priority flat rate or USPS first class Intl. There is NO guaranteed arrival time. Shipping time varies from country to country and whether customs decides to inspect the package..
  • There is NO tracking for USPS flat rate or USPS First class. From the official USPS site: " You cannot track a flat rate envelope or small flat rate box."...."Letters or packages sent via First-Class Mail® service cannot be tracked" USPS FAQ
  • There IS a "Confirmation of Delivery #", which doesn't get updated until the buyer receives the package. That means that checking this # for USPS Priority flat rate items is 100% pointless.. Until the buyer receives the item, this # will show that USPS "has been notified of the shipping label" and nothing more..

If you don't understand or aren't willing to assume the risks associated with USPS shipping, please don't buy this item. Thank you.

Loot Lowdown-

NOTE: These fans are not ready to be used in a PC. For PC ready fans, please go HERE.

LOT OF FOUR (4) Brand new, fresh out of the factory box, genuine Sanyo Denki San Ace 12 Volt 120 x 38mm H speed fans, terminated with 3 pin connector.. Please note that these were terminated to be used in high end servers, so to use them in PCs, the red and yellow wires must be swapped ( see below for more details)....

This is the famous 109R1212H1011 model with automatic speed control.. "quite rare and hard to find, its Sanyo Ace 109R1212T1H142 , automatic thermal controlled speed based on ambient temp."

san-ace-109r1212h1011-late-prince-of-fans

An on-board thermistor that adjusts the fans speed when the surrounding air is in between 30 and 40C..  These fans were made to cool high end Intel/ HP Servers..

When running on 12V, they start out at 1,300 RPM.. When running on 5V, they start out at 900 RPM

If you don't know about these fans, do a google search for "109R1212H4011".. Quite possibly the most in demand 120mm fan ever made.. Why? A combination of Unmatched static pressure, low noise and overall quality..

XS Fan Review by Vapor

I'll spoil one result for all of you upfront: the Sanyo Denki San Ace 1011 is king of the hill. And by hill I mean universe. It's really, really good. In addition to its insane empirical results (see below), it makes NO extraneous noises and undervolts like a champ. I have five and they all perform like this and they all start at 4V or lower. They could kick Chuck Norris's ass....silently.

They're ball bearings as well, so you don't have to worry about the sleeve bearing inconvenience. They also perform past their listed specs--something that's exceedingly rare in these SilenX days. Good luck finding any though...and when you do, they're $25 a pop. I also really like Sanyo Denki's Eneloop batteries (hey, I said "stuff" in the title, that implies plurality).

Fan Mini Review by Vapor

The way I see it in this grouping....there's the San Ace and then the other three. The noise they make is incomparable--the only reason the San Ace is even in this group is because it moves the same amount of air as them. I don't know how it does it, but I wish more fans did. That said, it's impossible to find, going for nearly $30 a pop when shipped, and they're fragile (I've broken 3...anything touching a spinning blade will break it off). It's in a class of their own, like a Tiger Woods of fans.

Sanyo Denki no longer makes these and from various reports, the newer 9G series isn't as good as the 109Rs.. I'm not sure exactly why, but it could have to do with the superior quality control of the Japanese Sanyo Denki factory.. The fans in this listing were 100% MADE IN JAPAN.. The 9G series are now mostly produced in the Philippines to save $.

The wires measure approximately 8 inches from the fan. The yellow wire is a Tach RPM sensor. Get em while they last..

*Confirmed operational at 4.5V Also confirmed operational at 32V.. The fan was run for several minutes and although the impeller had warmed up, there was no damage done to the fan.. Most other fans would start smoking at 18V... Why stop at 32V?. Because the power supply that was used for testing was a 32V supply.. And yes, at 32V this fan pushes air like nobody's business... I do not recommend running this fan at voltages higher than 13.8V..

The Connector:

Q: These fans come terminated with a 3 pin housing that is compatible with CPU headers, fan controllers, fan harnesses, etc.. But to be used in a conventional PC/fan controller, the Red and Yellow wires must be swapped.. You can do this with a small flat head screwdriver..Here's how

Step1: Remove the cover on the back of the connector

Step 2: Remove the Red wire by pulling the wire away from the housing (repeat with yellow wire)

Step 3: Insert Red wire in middle slot using a flat head screwdriver or something similar (popsicle stick, etc.).. Insert the Yellow wire in the remaining slot

Step 4: Re-attach the housing's cover..

FAQ:

Q: So at temps above 40C, this fan is identical to the 109R1212H1011, right?
A: YES!

Q: Can I use these with a fan controller?
A: YES!.. The on board thermal control will still work.. With a fan controller, you would be able to adjust the range of the fans speed..

Q: Why can't I find any info on this particular part #?..
A: Because the part # is OEM specific.. This model was custom made for Intel/HP.. It is a 109R1212T1H122 that is terminated with a AMP connector at the SD factory.. A "true" 109R1212T1H122 comes with bare wires from the factory.. In fact, any Sanyo Denki fan with a part # that you can find in their catalog comes from the factory with bare wires... Connectors are available, but the part # will change.. In this case, the custom connector changed the part # from 109R..22 to 109R..42

Q:Will voltages lower than the startup voltage damage these fans?
A: NO! Sanyo Denki fans have advanced built in protection to cut off current when applied voltage is insufficient to start the fan.. (this is what all those components(resistors, capacitors, etc) on the Denki's PCB are for).. Notice the $2 fan has little, if any advanced circuitry

To test this feature, I connected a SD fan to a bench power supply.. Sure enough at really low voltages (EG 2V) , the current is completely cut off( bench supply shows 0.00 amps)...

Then I tested a yate loon (Made in China, cheap and relatively quiet.. popular among PC builders)... As I suspected, no protection function with the Yate.. The Amps never went to 0.00.. So at voltages lower than startup, there is still current flowing through the fan even though the fan isn't moving.. IE they will burn up if left that way...
