Welcome to Antiques & Moore!

This listing is for a cute silver metal woven mesh chainmaille handbag,  c. 1900. The bag has a locking ball closure (sometimes referred to as a "kiss" closure) and an attached ring for attaching to a chatelaine. The frame is decorated with an engraved design on both front and back and appears to be marked with a tiny hallmark inside both the front and back of frame but if this is actually a hallmark, the stamp is very small and illegible so we are selling the bag as silver metal NOT sterling silver. There is a small hinged mesh divider in interior of bag.

Measures 4" long from closure to bottom of mesh (does not include hanging beads at bottom), 2 1/2" wide at bottom of frame and 1/4" deep. Weighs 45 grams.

The frame is in excellent Estate condition with no noted although when closed, there is a faint gap in closure on one side of ball clasp. Although the hinge is tight, the clasp does not close tightly. This is probably an easy fix, however, we will leave this to the new owner. There is also one ball "tassel" missing on bottom edge and the finger chain is also missing. There are a couple small chain breaks in the body that are only noticed with very close inspection. Please view all photos as part of condition description. Bag is being sold as found and could possibly use polishing.

This handbag would be a cute accessory for a large size antique bisque head doll.
