A good looking Regency burr walnut veneered tea caddy of sarcophagus form with locking key.
The swirling grain pattern of the burr walnut has developed a lovely mellow patina and it is further enhanced by the ebonising around the top, edges and around the small plinth that forms the outer edge of the base. The lock is original but I have had a new key cut to enable it to be locked to prevent your servants from helping themselves to your tea. It has a heart shaped mother of pearl escutcheon. The top lifts to reveal a two sectioned caddy with burr walnut veneered lids and turned bone knobs. This complements the inside of the lid which has also a walnut veneer.
It has been sympathetically cleaned re-waxed and polished. There has been some minor restoration work to the veneer and is in overall very good condition.
Measurements: 23 cm wide, 14 cm deep and stands 14 cm high.
