This listing is for a gorgeous silver mesh handbag made by Whiting & Davis decorated with an elaborately pierced and engraved floral frame, a long chain handle and unusual mesh "tassels" at the bottom. Bag is lined with a silver fabric. Inside frame is marked "Made in USA" with the trademark stamp of the Whiting & Davis Company of Plainville MA in business since 1892. Whiting & Davis were manufacturing jewelers and chain makers who after developing a new manufacturing technique for making chain mesh became the world's largest makers of chain mesh women's handbags and specialty accessories.
Bag measures 10" long from top of frame (not including clasp) to bottom of mesh and 4 5/8" wide with the chain having a 15" drop. Total length of handbag is 25". The mesh section of the bag measures 9 1/4" long and 4 3/4"
wide. Weighs 7.5 ounces. This unusual bag is in very good to excellent Estate condition. The frame is in excellent condition with interlocking ball closure which opens and closes freely and holds the frame together tightly. I didn't find any other flaws on the handbag which is in original "as found" condition and could possibly use polishing, if desired.
