Very Early ORIGINAL Antique Colonial Tin Candle Mold, 4 Tubes for 4 Candles, c.1780, Hand Made by Early Tinsmith

DESCRIPTION: Scans show it all.....Very nice, very early c.1780 tin candle mold. THIS IS AN ORIGINAL COLONIAL ITEM AND NOT A REPRODUCTION AS OFTEN SEEN ON EBAY. This has 4 "tubes" to make 4 candles at a time. These were quite an improvement and time saver over hand-dipping candles on early farms, but were rather expensive in colonial money and not too common. Smaller molds, for 4 candles or less like this one, were less common and scarcer now.

It stands 11" tall and is roughly 3 1/2" x 2 1/2" at the top. The top was made to hold the tubes in place. It also has a little "dam" around the edge so that molten wax would not overflow. At the bottom the tubes come together and are soldered. This is a simpler, EARLIER design without the bottom rim. This style was not used much beyond 1780.

Each tube is about 7/8" diameter. This one had a handle, but it is missing as is often the case.

THIS CANDLE MOLD HAS LOTS OF EARLY, ANTIQUE, COLONIAL EYE APPEAL, and of course a particularly early example!!!

THIS WAS HANDMADE OUT OF SHEETS OF TIN BY AN EARLY NEW ENGLAND TINSMITH. All tight and in place and in very good condition. Nice aged tin patina.

Nice early item from a Massachusetts estate sale, from my personal collection. OVER 200 YEARS OLD!!! Great colonial decoration item for a mantle or in a kitchen display or as a gift.
