Grow “Wild” Creeping Thyme from fresh natural Organic Heirloom seeds. Creeping Thyme is a perfect perennial ground cover that requires very little maintenance. Mother of Thyme is a quick growing ground cover that spreads to 12"-18". Creeping Thyme quickly covers the ground with soft fuzzy evergreen-like foliage, hence it's a “ground cover.” Wild Thyme will reach a mature height of 6"-8". Thyme flowers produce blooms in beautiful lavender purple, pink and fuchsia which last for months on end attracting butterflies and other beneficial pollinators such as bumblebees and lady bugs. Creeping Thyme, “Thymus serpyllum” is a perennial plant, it will die in winter and grow back in spring on its own. Once established, Thyme is low maintenance and drought tolerant making it a perfect ground-cover in between bricks, walkways, rock walls, along garden borders or you can even grow it as a much more sustainable lawn instead of a water-hungry lawn of grass. Thyme is also great to grow in flowerbeds, along driveways, walkways, planters, window boxes and in many other natural settings.

How to Grow
Thyme seeds are tiny and best started indoors, 6-8 weeks before the last frost. (I start mine in peat pots, about 6 weeks prior to the last frost) Directly sow seeds on the surface of the soil since they need light to germinate. At first Thyme prefers direct sunlight for ideal germination and growth. Plant thyme in rich, fertile, well draining soil. If you have hard, compact soil mix in some compost to improve drainage. Water the tiny seeds daily with a mist setting or spray bottle to ensure that the topsoil will be moist but not soaked until germination occurs. Thyme will begin to germinate within 7-14 days.
Once seedlings have a few sets of true leaves transplant into the garden in the Spring. Thyme grows to around 6-8" so when grown outdoors, space plants 6 -12" apart.
Thyme is edible & delicious in many recipes. Thyme is also very medicinal, Thyme is antibacterial and even functions as a natural insect repellent! Gardeners grow it for its intoxicating scent which also repels garden pests such as mice, deer, rabbits, ect. There are hundreds of species of thyme, and all of them are relatively easy to grow from seed.
