Mercedes-Benz uses AdBlue® technology to create our cleanest diesel cars ever with no impact on performance. Made from urea and demineralised water, it’s non-toxic, colourless, odourless and non-flammable.

How does it work? AdBlue® is introduced into the exhaust gases using an exhaust treatment system called selective catalytic reduction (SCR), where up to 90% of the nitrogen oxides (NOx) produced by the vehicle are converted into their environmentally friendly components: nitrogen and water. And the best part? We haven’t compromised on that signature Mercedes-Benz driving experience.

When do I need to top up my car’s AdBlue® fluid? Depending on usage a full tank of AdBlue® will run for several thousand miles and shouldn’t need to be refilled between services. However, if you find yourself running low you will be presented with a warning in the instrument cluster, similar to a warning about a low fuel level. If ignored, this message will be followed by another indicating the miles that can be covered to empty. We recommend topping up as soon as possible, because if you do run out your car will not restart once the ignition is switched off until the AdBlue® tank is refilled.
