PROOF COINS

Proof coins are a method of manufacturing.  Proof coins are usually absent of the minor imperfections of business strike coins, and are noticeable by their ultra-flashy appearance, and the fineness of detail.  Although minted in much fewer numbers than their business strike companions, they have less collectors pursuing them, so they can be obtained at fairly decent levels.  If you want a coin that will bring out the "King Midas" in you, start collecting Proof coins.

Try not to handle a proof coin by the face, instead caress the outside rim, feeling the sharpness of the rim against your fingers.  Tilt the coin between your thumb and index finger and slowly turn it back and forth under a good light source.  Let the light play off the fields and observe the shine and intensity of the strike.  Put the coin into a good book for multiple viewing sessions, or place them into a nice holder so that both sides can be viewed.  Give them as gifts and watch the recipient ogle the shine and strike. Proof coins are for the perfectionist in all of us.
