This is a really beautiful late Georgian or early Victorian inkwell which we used as a candleholder a couple of times.
The little holes around the top were for the quills to stick in when not writing.
It is handpainted and the green colour was modern around ca.1840/50.
It may be Staffordshire made.

Scalloped design with panels of green garlands and flowers on white panels.
Finished with a golden stripe on the top and bottom of this lovely piece.
