You are buying an A4 modern print of the original pattern and not the finished item.
This 1940s knitting and crochet pattern allows you to make a pair of crochet slippers (top left in photo), a pair of lace-up crochet slippers (middle of photo), which according to the pattern is 'popular with prisoners of war when made in a large size' and a pair of striped knitted house shoes.

All items in the pattern when closely following the instructions can be crocheted or knitted to fit an individuals foot size by adding or subtracting stitches (or rows if completing the knitted slippers) where needed. For this reason, I am not recommending this pattern to beginners.

YOU WILL NEED TO PURCHASE SLIPPER SOLES FOR ALL SLIPPER STYLES.

The Crochet Slippers at the top of the photo were originally crocheted in a 3-ply fingering yarn used double or Patons Super Wheeling, 3-ply used singly as apparently this was a thick wool (I could not find any further information on this wool). For this project, I would try a modern 4-ply used double (or D/K used singly) as vintage yarns were heavier than modern, and although no tension information is given, by using your chosen sized slipper sole and instructions in the pattern, you can gauge how your work is sizing up. The hook used was a No.11.

The Lace-up Crochet Slippers in the middle of the photo, seemed to be welcomed by those servicemen who were in prisoner of war camps, and it is quite a sobering thought that mums, wives, grans, sisters and girlfriends sat at home lovingly crocheting these slippers for loved ones who were incarcerated so far from home, but such items I can imagine were a welcome embrace of home and a show of love for the men who received them.

The slippers were crocheted in either rug wool or D/K used double throughout the slipper using a No.6 bone crochet hook. Try a modern hard wearing D/K or D/K sock wool with manmade fibres for extra strength. Tension information is given for this slipper as 3 sts. to the inch in width.

The Knitted House Shoes at the bottom of the photo were knitted using up oddments of Patons Super Wheeling 3-ply wool using No.10 needles for the rainbow stripes for a jolly look! Be aware that as previously mentioned in the 'Crochet Slippers' above that this 3-ply wool was thick, so try a modern 4-ply in it's place or D/K and work your tension square and adjust your needles or change ply if necessary to obtain the tension instructions mentioned in the pattern which was 5 1/2 sts. to the inch in width on the moss-stitch.
