Ive been selling off some of my late fathers watches recently (see my feedback for brief details), he was a civil engineer who travelled the world on his business purchasing watches (mostly new ones) for his collection.

This latest offering is one of the few watches he did not purchase new.

The watch is a British Services early Divers Watch and my dad obtained it from his pal whom he met whilst doing his National Service in Egypt in 1961.

The original owner of the watch has a guy called Tommy Price who was in the same regiment as my dad in Egypt.

Tommy was a keen amateur diver and both he and my dad worked on military engineering work (mostly bridge building) whilst undertaking their National Service.

Tommy purchased this watch from the local Military NAFI store in Egypt (a NAFI store was a british run shop where most items could be purchased by military staff).

My dad remembers that the watch originally had a leather or fabric pull through strap on the watch and Tommy used the watch throughout his military service (National service lasted 2 years).

After National service my dad went to university and later became a civil engineer, Tommy ended up a professional diver, and my dad kept in touch with him regularly, my dad obtained this watch from Tommy sometime in the early 1970's, by which time the unusual steel mesh strap had been fitted to the watch.(it is a small fit strap).

The watch itself runs fine and keeps decent time for a 60 year old watch, it does have wear and tear as you would expect from a watch that has been through 2 years of national service but overall its in good vintage condition.

I would recommend a service to any new owner as my dad never had the watch serviced (he never wore it either!),

I continue to have the watch on test and on one occasion it stopped ticking, when I adjusted the time it started again, so a reiterate that this watch will need a service at some time in the near future.
