With the market for everything starting to disappear during The Great Depression, Rearwin, along with other airplane manufacturers, decided to build a "flying flivver." The Junior was an attempt to fill that niche.
Powered by a 3 cyl. 45 HP Szekely engine, the Junior enjoyed some market success. The 3000, and the later 4000 version (with an Aeromarine AR-3 engine) sold nearly 30 copies.
The Szekely engine was notorious for spitting out its cylinders. So much so that the heads were attached to one-another by a cable!

Construction
The fuselage framework was built of welded chrome-moly and 1025 steel tubing, lightly faired to shape and fabric covered. One elongated cockpit seated two in tandem; there was a large windshield in front and a smaller windshield for the rear seat. A detachable full enclosure was optional. A large rectangular door offered easy entry into either seat. The wing framework in two halves was built up of laminated spruce spar beams with spruce and birch plywood truss-type wing ribs. The leading edges were covered with plywood sheet and the completed framework was covered in fabric. The centre section was mounted high above the cockpit on steel tube struts and the wings were braced to the lower fuselage by streamlined steel tube struts. The split-axle landing gear of 72 inch tread used a spool of rubber shock-cord or Rusco rubber compression rings to absorb the shock. 16x7-4 Goodyear airwheels w/o brakes were standard equipment. Tail skid was of steel spring-leaf type. The fabric-covered tail group was built up of welded steel tubing and channel sections. Horizontal stabilizer was adjustable in flight. A wooden Aeromarine propeller, dual joystick controls were standard equipment. A 12 lb. or 28 lb detachable winter enclosure was optional.
