The stocking-stitch tie is the ordinary shape, made in one piece and
sewn down the center back. The fine fabric especially if knitted in a
lace weight yarn, will give the appearance of woven material.
The straight Tie in can be made of silk. For sports and country wear
make it to match up with his tweeds.

Both are knitted in 3 ply and the straight tie is double knitted to give
the pattern.

The needles and hooks mentioned are old UK sizes, so I have included
 a chart to help with old to new sizing
