2022 - A series of postage stamps dedicated to the Chinese New Year has been issued since 2011, and the postage stamp dedicated to the Year of the Tiger, which begins on 1 February this year, is the last in the series. There are a total of 12 animal signs in Chinese astrology, and the tiger is the third. According to one legend, the names of the animals date back to the time of the Buddha, who named each year after the animals that came to say goodbye to him. The tiger is considered the king of all animals in China and is a symbol of strength and courage.

2021 - A stamp series dedicated to the Chinese New Year has been published since 2011. The stamp soon to be released is the eleventh stamp in the series and is dedicated to the year of the Ox, which starts on 12 February. Chinese astrology includes twelve animal signs; the ox is the second one. According to one legend, the mystical Jade Emperor organised a race between 12 animals from one end of the Heavenly Sea to the other. The ox moved determinedly towards the finish line ahead of others, but the clever rat who rode on the ox’s back jumped off just before the finish line and so the ox came in second. In Chinese culture, the ox is a symbol of hard work, perseverance and honesty.

2020 - 2011 marked the debut of a series of postage stamps commemorating Chinese New Year. This is the 10th stamp in the series and is dedicated to the Year of the Rat due to start on 25 January. There are 12 animal signs in the Chinese zodiac and the rat is the first of them. According to one legend, the Jade Emperor organized a race between the 12 animals. The ox was the leader as they approached the finish line but the clever rat jumped off the ox’s back just before and won. In Chinese culture, the rat symbolizes intelligence, wealth and vitality.

2019 -In 2011, we launched the first of a series of postage stamps dedicated to the Chinese New Year. This is the ninth stamp of the series and it is dedicated to the Year of the Pig, which begins on 5 February. There are twelve animal signs in Chinese astrology and the pig is the last of them. According to one legend, the mysterious Jade Emperor organised a race between 12 animals from one end of the celestial sea to another. The pig came last because he stopped for a meal and a quick nap and only finished the race after that. This is why pigs are sometimes considered lazy. In the Chinese culture, the pig symbolizes happiness, prosperity, and love for peace.

2018 - As of 2011, we have issued a series of postal stamps in honour of the Chinese New Year every year. This series is the eighth of this kind and is dedicated to the year of the dog, which starts on 16 February. There are twelve animal characters in Chinese astrology and the dog is the eleventh among them. According to one legend, this tradition of calling years after animals dates back to the time of Buddha, who named the years by the names of the twelve animals who came to say goodbye to him. In Chinese culture, the dog symbolises courage, loyalty and honesty.

2017 - Starting from 2011 a series of postage stamps is issued. This year's stamp is the seventh of the series and is dedicated to the Year of the Rooster which begins on January 28. Chinese astrology has twelve animal figures and the rooster is the tenth in the series. According to a legend the animal names go back to the age of the Buddha who named the years according to all the twelve animals who all came to come to give farewell to him, and the rooster was the only bird among them. In chinese culture the rooster represents trust and accuracy because it wakes up people in time.

2016 - Starting from 2011 a series of postage stamps dedicated to the Chinese New Year has been issued in Estonia. The sixth stamp in the series is dedicated to the year of the monkey that will begin in the night of February 8. In Chinese astrology there are twelve animal signs and monkey is the ninth of them. According to a legend the animal names derive from the age of Buddha, who named the years after the twelve animals, who came to give farewell to it. In Chinese mythology the monk is regarded intelligent, ambitious, cunning and companionable.

2015 - According to the Chinese Zodiac Calendar the Wood Sheep (or Goat) Year will start on 19 February 2015, and will last until the 7th February 2016. Sheep are a symbol close to the earth and is connected with the growth of plants and fertility and their energy symbolizes peace, coexistence and silence. It is the first and the main mood that year. In the Oriental calendar 2015 is a decisive year. One epoch is ending and another is beginning, promising once again major hopes for the future. Although we have always been hopeful and will remain so, it is once again possible for the humanity to make the world a better place! New inventions can change our lives more than the Internet or a mobile phone, progress in the wireless technology has an unexpected influence. 2014 - According to the Chinese zodiac calendar the Year of the Horse will start on January 31, 2014 and will last until February 18, 2015. As the element of that animal sign is the tree, the New Year is also called the Year of the Wooden Horse. In Chinese mythology the horse has an important motive and it is connected with numerous myths, symbolizing power, speed, tenacity and freedom. In some cases the horse or horses are in the role of the main character, while others take a secondary role. Horses had been domesticated in North-Eastern China about 7,000 years ago and they had such an important role that more than three thousand years ago they were buried together in the same grave with their owners. The horse was one of the most favourite animal for the Chinese. It was the fastest means of transportation until the arrival of cars, making it possible for people to arrive in their destinations. Therefore the horse was not just the sign of travelling, but also of fast success. People born in the Year of the Horse are mundane, they do not like routine. They love freedom and travelling and are unpredictable. They are usually happy, friendly and keen, eager to cooperate and are not too egoistic, having a lot of social energy. It is necessary to ride carefully with the cheerful, lively and unpredictable horse and listen to the voice of wisdom. Patience and purposefulness will certainly come in handy in the New Year.

2013 - By the Chinese zodiac calendar the Year of the Snake will start on February 10. Although many people associate the Snake with dangers and venoms, it is still regarded as a symbol of happiness. The Snake, a mysterious, slightly dangerous but an interesting and clever creature was admired in ancient China as great thinker. In the Orient the dragon was not seen as a threatening evil being as in the West but rather a symbol of power, superiority and rule. Today it is a really good omen symbolising success and happiness. The keywords of the people born in the year of the dragon are idealism, perfectionism, enterprise, passion, self-confidence and they demand attention and respect.
