DESCRIPTION

This is a 'New Edition' of the work, which was first published in 1734.

Four plates to volume I including three genealogical tables (two folding) and a folding plate featuring a view and the plan of the Temple of Mecca.

In the publishers' original ribbed cloth binding.

The Koran/Quran/Qur'an is the central religious text of Islam. Sale's translation of the Koran was the first to have been taken directly from the original Arabic. He also used Louis Maracci's Latin translation of the Koran from 1698 to help him with this translation. Prior to this the only English translation of the Koran was translated by Alexander Ross in 1649 and was a translation of the Sieur du Ryer's French translation.

Printed by S Hazard of Bath.
