A 4x6’ album page autographed by June Richmond and on the back in the form of an affixed cut signature of Billy Eckstine. Richmond (born July 9, 1915 in died August 14, 1962 in Gothenburg, Sweden) was an American jazz singer and actor. Her only recordings under her own name originated in 1951 when she recorded four titles in Stockholm with Svend Asmussen. In 1957 in Paris, she recorded another four numbers with the orchestra of Quincy Jones, "I Gotta Right to Sing the Blues", "Sleep", "Everybody's Doing It" and "Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea". She was also an actor in the 1940s and 1950s, as in the American Reet, Petite, and Gone (1947) and the German Liebe, Jazz und übermut (1957). Eckstine (July 8, 1914 – March 8, 1993) was an American singer and a bandleader of the swing era. Eckstine's recording of "I Apologize" (MGM, 1948) was awarded the Grammy Hall of Fame Award in 1999. Signatures are in pencil, and grade high.

Provenance:

We are fortunate enough to have picked up the Dot Spokisfield collection. Dots was an enthusiastic collector of Jazz autographs obtaining the signatures (mostly in pencil) in an autograph album book from 1944 to 1947. Dot would encourage to the musicians to write what the please on the page, with most of them writing the name of the band or orchestra they were associated with most of the signatures being signed in pencil and often personalized to Dot. Dot's would then write where and when the signature was obtained and adding a red asterisk next to the name. The pages are full of incredible and very rare names from such notable bands as the Louis Armstrong Band, the Cab Calloway Orchestra, the Lionel Hampton Orchestra, the Andy Kirk Orchestra and more.
