In a Blackwell binding, Oxford, with the binder's stamp to the verso of the front endpaper.

Guy Mannering was first published anonymously in 1815. The story was originally intended to be a story of the supernatural but changed his mind soon after starting. The book was a huge success selling out on the first day of publication.

Sir Walter Scott was a Scottish historical novelist, playwright and poet. He was one of the first writers to have contemporary readers worldwide. His popular series Waverley was Scott's first venture into prose fiction. The first novel of the series Waverley is often regarded as the first historical novel in the western tradition.


CONDITION

In a half morocco binding with cloth covered boards. Externally, excellent with minor shelfwear, mainly to the extremities. Prior owner's bookplate to front pastedown, Rodney C Hindle. Front hinge is slightly strained but firm after endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean throughout.
