DESCRIPTION

A collection of works by Horace. Quintus Horatius Flaccus was a Roman poet, and was one of the most popular poets of the Augustus era in Rome. His poems often touch on the themes love, friendship, and philosophy. He is generally considered to be the greatest writer of Latin lyric poems.

William Baxter, a Welsh scholar, published his edition of Horace's works in 1701, and was generally considered to be the best edition of Horace ever published at the time.

Johann Matthias Gesner, a German classical scholar, made Baxter's edition the basis of his own, before, in 1788, C. Zeunius incorpoated both of Baxter and Gesner's notes into one volume.
