盘金绣是清朝的北京地区特有的工艺，其要点是把金箔、银箔包在极细的丝线外，然后用丝线盘出花纹。

现代的盘金绣仿品都无法仿制出包着金箔和银箔的丝线，只好使用替代品，譬如实心黄铜线，化学染色的丝线，以及塑料线等，不难鉴别。

盘金绣的黄金厉久而不变色，白银则从早期的银白色氧化而变成银灰色。盘金绣织品在灯光照耀下显得金碧辉煌，极富装饰性。历史沉淀与富丽堂皇的美感交织在一起，是收藏价值极高的藏品。
