This an old large type 50p piece, minted in 1973, after joining what was then called the EEC on 1st. January 1973. It shows the linked 9 hands representing the nine member states at that time. Twenty years later on 1st. November the EEC became what's now known as the EU and the rest is history (in more ways than one).

Now 55 years old, a cheap antique. 

As time goes on these coins will probably increase in value, especially after Brexit, it would also make an interesting in-expensive gift.
