DESCRIPTION

With an engraved frontispiece, and a number of vignette head and tail pieces.

Bibliographer John Martin was born in London in 1791. After assisting John Hatchard, bookseller in Piccadilly, he went into business on his own account in Holles Street, Cavendish Square; but soon afterwards entered into partnership with John Rodwell in New Bond Street. He retired from business in 1826, but continued bibliographical pursuits.

An ex library number has been added by hand to the spine, and the rear hinge is strained. Internally, generally firmly bound with bright, clean pages. There are some handling marks to the endpapers; an institutional paper book plate of Grimsby Public Library to the front pastedown, and an ink stamp of the same library to the title page and to page 563; an ink copperplate inscription to the verso of the title page; and some discolouration and offsetting from the frontispiece, to the front endpapers.
