It flowers for a long period over summer, and they can be picked and dried, or used fresh in cut flowers arrangements. A hardy plant, though in harsh or frosty conditions it is best treated as an annual. It likes a sunny position, and goes well in a rockery, and is sensational for massed plantings and Australian native wildflower meadows. Propagation is from seed, division or cuttings. This plant is a food source for the painted lady butterfly.
This is an excellent flower for the cutting garden that can be grown from Ammobium Alatum seeds. It is also called, Winged Everlasting, and is very popular to cut, dry and use as an everlasting. As soon as the Ammobium flowers open about half way, typically in mid-summer, they are cut, tied in small bunches, hung up-side-down and dried in warm, well-ventilated rooms.
