SIGNED HALL ELTON & CO. SWEETS JAR IN SILVER PLATED FIGURAL HOLDER - CIRCA 1870

Measures approximately 8" high (to top of handle) by 5" in diameter.

The ruby or cranberry glass insert is in excellent condition and I believe it to be the original glass insert.  There are a few tiny fleabites around the rim.  The glass insert does not sit in the stand completely level so the lid is slightly skewed.

Fantastic leopard - like or gargoyle heads on each of the supports.  A wonderful eagle finial on the lid.  Engraved initals and the date 1873 on the top front silver plated rim.

The business of Hall, Elton & Co., of Willingford, Connecticut, were manufacturers of silver plated goods, was established about 1836, when Jacob Hall and William Elton began the manufacture of Britannia ware on the site of the present plant of Simpson, Hall, Miller & Company. The firm was purchased in 1890 by Maltby, Stevens & Curtiss and later by Watrous Mfg Co. In 1898 the business became part of International Silver Company.
