This novel follows Jack Dawson, a single parent and New York detective. He is investigating a brutal string of murders of Mafia criminals, which appears to have been done by murderers. He believes that there may be supernatural or magical factors in the killings.

Dean Koontz is a highly successful thriller and horror author. His novels frequently incorporate elements of fantasy, science fiction, mystery and satire. Many of his writings have appeared on the New York Times Bestseller list.
