This listing is for a gorgeous Mid-Century lorgnette (opera glasses) made of Bakelite with a tortoise shell coloration. The glasses have the shape of small reading glasses and close into the end of the long handle with a tab that holds them in place. The handle is decorated with a rope twist design with a small ring on the end to attach to a chain or ribbon, if desired. Although the lorgnette pre-dates the Victorian Period, it was during the 19th Century that they were most fashionable and were generally carried at the opera and theatre. 

Glasses measure 3 3/4" long (frame only) and 1" wide. The handle measures 10 1/4" long and 1/2" wide (at end). Weighs 35 grams or 1.3 ounce.

This nice lorgnette is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws. The closing mechanism that folds to secure the glasses within the frame also works correctly without any flaws or obstructions.
