Review

Silver Medal in the Long form, Single Image and Comic category in the Society of Illustrators Comic and Cartoon Art Annual Competition "Using a kaleidoscope of fluoro colours, Patrick's weird characters flourish in their even weirder surroundings." -- Rebecca Fulleylove, It's Nice That "Distance Mover is a terrific book, marking Patrick Kyle as a standout among up-and-coming cartoonists." -- Nick Francis Potter, Heavy Feather Review "This is a masterful use of shapes and squiggles to depict the sheer otherness of alien worlds and societies, one that not only alters one's understanding of physics but also of aesthetics." -- Rob Clough, The Comics Journal "Distance Mover...remains a hippy punk comics love letter full of lumpy characters and far-out themes of art, and life, and the world." -- Bryan Munn, Sequential "Kyle pushes sci-fi in new directions with his straightforward yet nuanced dialogue, otherworldly character design, and unique manipulation of the printed page." -- Whit Taylor "No matter how weird things get in this book and how strange its points of view become, it never stops feeling real. This is a beautiful, odd book, and it's well worth the effort it takes to immerse oneself in its understanding of reality." -- Rob Clough, High-Low "That this is a riff off Doctor Who seems undeniable...I could easily envision any given Tom Baker episode unfolding with animation by Kyle, who makes great use of the basic scenario to pull off a clever and entirely different kind of science fiction romp." -- John Seven, Vermicious "Patrick Kyle has created a comic that has a magical mix of captivating storytelling and great drawing style. With a tip of the hat to Dr. Who, Mr. Earth explores strange worlds and studies their cultures...If you're looking for a captivating adventure that's easy to get into, with visual surprises on each page, then step aboard the Distance Mover." -- Matt Lamothe, Book By Its Cover "Girls and boys, take control of your Misterhood and check out Kyle's Distance Mover for the best in upturned noses and fine angular design. Colour comics theorists hold on to your upturned noses: it's time for something else. I love the design of these pages. Mr. Kyle is not afraid to throw down a black blob of ink and switch it to blue (there are some great shapes in here), or trap his characters in a strange bubble in the Justice Zone ("What in the world? I walked through the door and now I'm in here"). Flat is the new round!" -- Marc Bell, author of Marc Bell's Hot Potatoe: Fine Ahtwerks: 2001-2008 and Shrimpy and Paul and Friends "Pure comics, heartbreakingly swift in its speed and span. Distance Mover is heady and hilarious, high and low, a tightly wound breakneck-paced science fiction epic, full of calamity and beauty. Quite literally this book will bend and blend your mind with time and space. Read it, and move great distances." -- Jordan Crane, author of Uptight and The Clouds Above

Description for Sales People

Distance Mover is a wonderful melange of genre and art. A high/low mixture that can be enjoyed as a straightforward adventure serial in the vein of Doctor Who or Flash Gordon, but it can also be enjoyed for its cutting edge art and cartooning. Kyle's cartooning and mark making recalls fine art traditions and skillfully delineates the alien worlds of Distance Mover. His amorphous and panel-less pages perfectly portray the cosmic worlds explored. Originally self-published and hand printed by Kyle, Distance Mover is known for its daring and inventive use of color. This is continued in the collected version, which utilizes limited spot coloring, gilding and a unique paper stock. Kyle's humorous and surreal sci-fi serial crosses artistic and genre boundaries. He reconfigures familiar tropes and images into a work that is perfect for genre enthusiasts, art lovers, and comic fans looking for something completely new.
