Hibiscus syriacus (The rose of Sharon) Double
Pale Pink x 1 plant
50 mm tube. Around 15 cm tall. Dormant in winter- see last photo.
"Hibiscus
syriacus is an open and vase shaped deciduous
shrub with arching branches.
The leaves vary in shape from slightly
rhomboid to variably lobed, in autumn these turn a dull yellow colour before
falling. From late spring through to autumn it produces large (10cms)
trumpet-shaped flowers that vary in colour (pink, crimson, white or
violet-blue) with a deep red centre and form (singles, semis and doubles).
Although the blooms only last for one day, it flowers profusely and makes for a
good background shrub as part of a border or as a semi-deciduous hedge or
feature. It prefers full sun and will tolerate anything from the harsh western
sun to part shade. This is a low maintenance plant, once established it will
tolerate frost, mild drought, pollution and neglect. Probably the easiest way
to get some tropical feel into almost any garden. Also, one of the easiest
plants to grow and propagate.
Soil: Prefers well drained fertile soils
but will adapt to just about any soils that are moderately drained. It will
tolerate poor soils with low fertility.
Maintenance: It likes to be pruned back
quite heavily in spring when it has a short sleep. Cut back by at least a third
and remove any old growth. Generous dressings of slow release, balanced
fertiliser in spring and early summer.
Diseases: Hibiscus beetle, metallic
flea beetle, Slugs Snails.” Author: Bob Saunders.

10. Growing
your plants. Most of the seeds have
been test sown to ensure germination. Please familiarize yourself
with growing conditions and instructions for your seeds before you plant them,
as all seeds are different. Basic growing instructions can be found under each
listing.
Although
every effort is taken to ensure the quality of our seeds, packaging, and
delivery method, it should be noted that the germination of seeds is very
dependent on many factors including Light, Moisture levels, Temperature, Soil
conditions, soil pests, and many other factors. Please ensure that the seeds
you order are suitable for the conditions in which you wish to grow them as we
cannot be held responsible for poor levels of germination. The Cultivation
guide above is purely for guidelines. Local conditions such as soil temp will
affect how well any seeds germinate so always check locally as to seed
suitability.
The same
applies to plants. Please, know
your conditions and choose your plants wisely!
