This is the rarest NZ official on cover.  Less than twenty O.P.S.O overprint stamped covers are known.  This one was used from Wellington on April 15, 1899 with 2 1/2d blue perf 11 (S.G. 238) Overprint O.P.S.O. in violet.  It also has S.G. 08a unpriced, sent to a sailor on the USS Boston to the American Consul at Yokohama, Japan.  It has the Yokohama cds 18, May 1899 on the front.  The ship had sailed with Admiral Dewey's invasion force to Manila, Phillipines.  The cover followed the ship to Manila via Kobe on May 18 and Hong Kong on May 23, arriving at Manila Station June 2.  The cover also shows U.S. military censors for June 2 and June 3 at Manila.  The cover shows that the sailor had been discharged address unknown M/S.  This cover was spiked and torn from the pin, suffering a tear at the lower left, but it has been repaired.  The stamp is in perfect condition and it comes with a Sismondo Certificate.
