CPM 15V(Crucible) - Crucible metallurgy tool steel, introduced in 1990. Extremely high wear resistance. Designed for tooling. Very few makers do make knives out of 15V, but not every custom knife maker is willing to work on it. CPM 15V is Crucible’s highest vanadium, abrasion resistant CPM tool steel. It contains 50% more hard vanadium carbides in its microstructure than CPM 10V, to provide even higher wear resistance. CPM 15V is intended for applications requiring exceptional wear resistance. Applications where CPM 10V is successful, but even longer tool life is desired, or applications where sintered carbide tooling is prone to fracture or difficult to fabricate, are likely to be well-served by CPM 15V.

Typical Chemistry of the cpm 15v

Carbon 3.40%

Manganese 0.50%

Silicon 0.90%

Chromium 5.25%

Vanadium 14.50%

Molybdenum 1.30%

Sulfur 0.07%

Extremely long edge holding. Truly a supersteel in right hands. The 15v is not a stainless steel, therefore its been coated with chromium. And there you have it: extremely long and aggressive cutting ability of the high carbon supersteel and the privilege of the stainless steel in one package! Very sharp! The knife has been hand sharpened using a guided sharpening system to 19.4 DPS, finished with 3/2 micron CBN stone, 1 microne diamond paste on glass blank(mirror polished). 0.35 mm behind the edge!It is hair splitting sharp and ready for action.Enjoy!
