Patriotic Propaganda Poster Stamp

In 1917, an organiztion was founded in Switzerland known as "Swiss Week". (Schweizer Woche in German, Semaine Suisse in French, Settimana Svizzera in Italian.) The purpose behind the movement was to highlight Swiss-made products and to honor Swiss workers.

The organization was renamed "Swiss Label" in 1989.
    According to the website swisslabel.ch:

SWISS LABEL, the association for the promotion of Swiss products and services, is an association in accordance with Art. 60 et seq. of the Swiss Civil Code.SWISS LABEL's mission is to provide support, in the broadest sense, to brands and labels.

The trademark of SWISS LABEL is the crossbow. SWISS LABEL’s origins date back to 1917 (founding of “Schweizer Woche”). The crossbow is protected in Switzerland and in important export destination countries. As an addition and/or alternative to the Swiss cross, the crossbow is used to represent the Swiss brand. The crossbow stands as a symbol of confidence-building values such as quality, certainty, reliability and solidity - both for companies as well as for consumers: SWISS LABEL members therefore stand out from the competition!

Ruedi Lustenberger officiates as the president; the secretariat is provided by the Swiss Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises (sgv).
Poster stamps were issued to support and promote the organization beginning in 1936. For 1936 and 1937 the poster stamps were issued in two versions - with German text and with French text. From 1938 onward, there was also a version with Italian text. The text for "Swiss Week" always appears on the stamps, and from 1941 onward the following text also appeared on each stamp:
   Ehret einheimisches Schaffen ! (German)
Honneur au travail national ! (French)
Onore al lavoro nazionale ! (Italian)
This phrase translates roughly to "Honor the work of the homeland !"

This stamp is the French text version of the 1958 stamp. It is listed in Pén's "Catalogue des Vignettes Suisses de Propagande et Commémoratives 1878-1980" as #SW.23b.

This example is F/VF, OG, NH.

Approximate Image Size: 28 x 43 mm.

After 35+ years I decided to retire from being an active Cinderella Stamp dealer. Most of my working inventory plus backup stock was sold at public auction. However, I have retained some material that I will be offering for sale. In addition, I have some "new" material that was mixed into lots I have bought for my own collections. I will be listing some of the material in my eBay store at fixed prices. I will also be offering some material at auction, either as single items or mixed lots. There will be many bargains available. There will be large and small lots, some containing similar material, some containing a random mixture, and some containing only one or a few items. The condition will be mixed, but none of the lots will be just accumulations of damaged or faulty stamps (unless specifically listed as such).

Items in stockpage or larger lots may be removed and repackaged into glassines to save on shipping costs.

A Note about Poster Stamps and Gum: Because many poster stamp collectors are primarily interested in the image on the stamp, the absence or presence of gum on the back is of little concern. If no mention of gum is made, then there may or may not be gum present. If you are only interested in poster stamps with original gum, please inquire before bidding. Actual condition issues (that are not apparent from the scan) WILL be described.

* A Note about "Stock Images": Occasionally I will have more than one example of an item in inventory. Rather than scan each one individually, I may use the same image for multiple examples of the item. If that is the case, the item supplied will be in substantially the same, or better, condition than the image. Any such items will have the words: "STOCK IMAGE" at the end of the description.
