DESCRIPTION

'One Hundred and Ninth Thousand' to the title page.

'Sesame and Lilies' is a collection of three essays, concerned with education and ideal conduct.

John Ruskin was an art critic in Victorian England, being an influential figure in the art world, especially with the Pre-Raphaelites. He was also greatly admired by Leo Tolstoy, Marcel Proust, and William Morris.

Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper, 'M. E. Goodlisse, Nov 14th 1918'.


CONDITION

In a half vellum binding, with cloth to the boards. Externally, smart. A little discolouration to the spine, as is usual with vellum. Very small chip to the head of the spine label. A few minor marks to the boards. Light spots to the fore edge. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with the odd spot, mostly to the first and last few pages.
