DESCRIPTION

A fascinating and detailed work on the antiquities of Ancient Rome.

This was considered the standard work on the subject for a century after its publication.

Illustrated with a frontispiece, six folding plates, and eight plates.

Written by Basil Kennett, a Church of England cleric.

Library label to the front pastedown, and institutional stamps to the recto to the front endpaper. Stamp to the reverse of the frontispiece, to the title page, and pages iii and v.


CONDITION

In a half cloth binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart. Some fading to the spine. Evidence of a label being formerly adhered to the tail of the spine. Head of the rear joint is cracked with lifting to the spine. Some minor rubbing to the boards. Front hinge is starting but firm. Rear hinge is strained but remains firm. Library label to the front pastedown, and institutional stamps to the recto to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are age-toned and foxed. Stamp to the reverse of the frontispiece, to the title page, and pages iii and v. Pencil marks to the title page. Pencil annotations to the reverse of the dustwrapper.
