Oil painting on canvas
Possibly English School?
I cannot read the signature though it does seem to be a name of European origin though not a 'Van' clearly
Possibly a Dutch English settler whose family name has merged?
Stunning really fine depiction of a tied cottage with an unusual steeply pitched roof
Unusual yet still probably rare English architecture (I chatted to some old school Chippies who do restorations about it)
Showing multiple extensions and a church in the background
Horse and cart in the foreground

This is a very old painting I believe even as early as C18 which was heavily over-varnished possibly by the artist.
It has largely preserved all paint intact with little by way of attrition or loss and no cracking
Which is of course why it was done when any impoverished artist was able to afford varnish
The stretcher clearly was damaged and at some later stage it has been removed from the stretcher frame
And then stuck to a board. While a reasonably successful transition there is a significant bubble to the left of the church spire.
It is barely noticeable at all yet needs mentioning for listing accuracy.
