This tropical-style strap in 10 classic colours will surely excite! Made from FKM (Fluoroelastomer) which is a class of man-made rubber of great density but soft in touch, made to stand harsh conditions, such as high temperature, chemicals etc., it comes in 3 sizes (18, 20 and 22mm) and 10 colours (Black, Blue, Blue Light (Mint) Green, Brown, Grey, Orange, Red, White and Yellow). Handsome dimensions at 90/130mm including the premium satin steel buckle and 5.25mm thickness at the lugs which thins down to 3mm at the tail and buckle ends. Width-wise it tapers down by 2mm, so 18/16mm, 20/18mm and 22/20mm. Lots of great little details on these straps include the square tail, the double floating ring keepers and also the ridged underside of the straps that is great for both use in water and for sweat/breathability in hot conditions or when working out. I should not forget to mention that these take quick-release spring bars and they come with a pair already fitted on them (for those that wonder, yes these will also take the Seiko fat spring bars if you prefer to replace the quick-release with your own fat springs). To my knowledge, they are the first tropical line that comes in this material (FKM) and with quick release spring bars. Choose your colour and size and do not hesitate to contact me for any questions you might have.
Details on the FKM material: For those who don’t know, FKM stands for Fluoroelastomer, which is a class of man-made rubber of great density but soft in touch, made to stand harsh conditions, such as high temperature, chemicals etc. For example, this type of rubber is often used in aerospace and nautical industries, which speaks a lot about its quality. To name a few, some of the characteristics of this material are: excellent resistance to chemicals (oxidation, acids, fuels), astonishing temperature durability (from - 60°C to 225°C ), great stability in all weather conditions, long lasting etc. The material was first developed by American company DuPont, under the brand name Viton®. The same company developed Neoprene™, which became so popular that it became common name for polychloroprene. The same often happens with Viton. Nowadays, there are many other producers of this valuable material. There are also variations of FKM, based on the polymers used.
