"T H O'SULLIVAN NEGATIVE" - "1866" - "A. GARDNER
- POSITIVE" CIVIL WAR ACTION BATTLE SCENE W/ CANNON FIRE GLASS MAGIC LANTERN SLIDE - 4" x 3 1/4"

When we acquired this slide, it had been found bound together with 20 year old masking tape, which we carefully removed completely.  We then cleaned the two pieces of glass but obviously did not touch the emulsion side of the one piece of glass with the image on it.  While examining the glass with the image on it - we noticed tiny tiny writing at the bottom and LOW and BEHOLD, once we took
a 10X loupe to it, we saw that this was a slide published by ALEXANDER GARDNER in 1866, of which the original negative was taken by T. H. O'SULLIVAN.

Thus, we have a very exciting action shot of a Civil War Battle scene with scads of Union soldiers igniting cannons during a battle.  As can be seen, the original slide does have many scratches and such - having been used for about 150 years and the cover-glass having likely come loose.

Never-the-less, the slide has now been rebound with black paper / composition tape and is back to normal - and looks as it did 150 tears ago when out was first mounted.  This slide is likely taken from Gardner's
1866 "SKETCHBOOK OF THE CIVIL WAR."   Or maybe not?

Neither the cover glass nor the image glass is cracked or chipped, but are worn from years of use.
