Welcome to Antiques & Moore!

This listing is for a lovely Wave Crest Art Glass photo holder or letter holder made by the C. F. Monroe Co. with hand enameled floral decoration, c. 1900. The photo holder has a molded swirl design around the edges with pink shaded borders and hand painted flowers in the center of each side. The top edge has a bronze beaded collar. Marked with the Wave Crest stamp on the bottom. An example of this photo holder with a bronze footed base is pictured on page 74 of the book "Wave Crest: The Glass of C.F. Monroe" by Wilfred R. Cohen. Some photo holders were sold with the decorative bases and others were sold without a base.

Measures 4" high, 6 1/4" long and 3 1/4" wide. Weighs 1.12 pounds.

This nice photo holder is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws with the bronze collar reflecting only minor signs of normal wear.

Wave Crest glass was produced as an opal glass blank and was originally called "Opal Ware". The glass was at the height of its popularity from 1890 to 1910.  Much of the opal glass known as Wave Crest was produced by the Mt. Washington Glass Co. and was then purchased by the C. F. Monroe Co. as unpainted glass blanks to be decorated by their artists.
