This plate features Erigeron Bellidifolius (Robin's Plantain) and Parnassia Caroliniana (Grass of Parnassus).
This pair of illustrations is printed on medium-weight paper. The sheet size is just over 11.5" x 8", and the area within the red border of each of the two pictures is 4" x 6.25", printed with margins of 1/2" - 1.25" to allow easy matting and framing--together or separately.
On the reverse of the sheet are the common and scientific names, botanical information about the plants--including some allegorical prose, and more specifics about the flowers.
The print is a true stone chromolithograph with the distinctive saturated color and depth. It is an attractive work, with special attention to detail and accurate hue.
This is a bookplate from the 1894 first edition of: "Wild Flowers of America" prepared by Botanical Fine Art Weekly. "Flowers of Every State in the American Union by a special corps of Artists from the United States and Europe."

A Note on Lithography: One of the delightful and interesting results of the engraving and ink transfer process in lithography is that there can be variants of the prints which look slightly different when compared side-by-side, even though they were produced by the same engraved plates on the same press. This may be a result of additional passes by one color or another, subtle differences in the ink tone, varying pressure from the pressing of the plates, slight variation in the position of each color plate, or other choices made by the engravers or the printers. The result is that each print's appearance is truly unique.
