Up for auction is a wonderful antique pitcher that I believe was made by Charles Meigh & Son.  It has a four season pattern and glazed interior.  The design is raised and appears ancient Roman or Grecian in pattern.  It features 2 young children or cupids with 1 gathering wheat, and 1 pouring grain into a vessel.  On the opposite side-1 child is huddled in a robe and the impression is "want".  The other child is seated with a jug and glass suggesting "plenty.  Is the theme "feast or famine?"  The figures are surrounded by ferns with a snake coiling between hem.  Under the spout is a Satyr (a man's face with coiled horns of a goat).  The lower part of the handle ends in a mythical man with flowing hair and beard.

There is an English Register mark on the bottom, but it is under the glaze and I have not been able to read it.  Other pieces of this pattern of pottery have been dated in the mid 1800's.
