Before Pintoo

• Dick Chuang, the founder of Pintoo, owned a factory producing high bouncing balls in 1980 in Taiwan.
• In 2001, Dick received a jigsaw puzzle as a birthday gift. While putting together the puzzle, Dick fantasized about a jigsaw puzzle being a ball shaped instead of flat.
• Dick experimented with several materials and processes between 2001 and 2003.
• In 2003, the first commercially available spherical jigsaw puzzle was created and showcased in Hong Kong.
• The spherical jigsaw puzzle won product of the year award in the 2003 HK Toy Fair.
• Jigsaw puzzle brands from around the world started to import these spherical puzzles to their countries.
• These brands include Ravensburger from Germany, Jumbo from Netherlands, Yanoman from Japan, and MegaBrands from the US, to name a few.
• Between 2003 and 2008, the company produced over 25 million spherical jigsaw puzzles, large and small, and are sold worldwide.
• These spherical jigsaw puzzles are commonly known as puzzleballs.

Beginning of Pintoo

• With years of knowledge and experience in making 3D plastic puzzles, Dick wanted to create a new jigsaw puzzle brand that offers improved experience in putting together a puzzle and using the puzzle in everyday life.
• Dick chose Pintoo to be the name of this new brand. The word Pintoo means Jigsaw Puzzle in Mandarin.
• Headquartered in Taiwan, Pintoo immediately started the development of its unique versions of 2D puzzles.
• Soon Pintoo's 2D puzzle became a popular choice among jigsaw puzzle enthusiasts in Asia.
• Pintoo continues to develop new products offering new and exciting jigsaw puzzle experience.
• Now there are more than 20 different types of jigsaw puzzles from Pintoo.

Some fun facts about Pintoo and before Pintoo

• The largest spherical puzzle or puzzle ball assembled was 60-inch in diameter. The very first such puzzle was put together in Dick’s office. When Dick wanted to move the puzzle to a trade show, he then realized it was too big to fit through the office doors and the puzzle ball has to be taken apart again.
• The largest flat jigsaw puzzle that Pintoo can make is infinitely large. A one thousand piece puzzle can be joined with another puzzle seamlessly and thus can be extended infinitely.
• It is possible to hold onto one puzzle piece to lift up an entire 1000 piece puzzle which is not glued together.
