DESCRIPTION

Illustrated with a vignette title page, and two plates.

A beautiful work describing the famous apparition of the Madonna at Monteortone. A sanctuary was built at this place in 1428 following the miraculous event, during the time of a plague epidemic.

The Madonna appeared to Pietro Falco as he was resting in the grove at the foot of Monteortone. The Virgin invited him to immerse himself in a lake nearby, where is war wounds would be healed.

Written by Giacomo Filippo Tomasini, an Italian Catholic bishop.

Prior owner's ink inscription to the front pastedown, 'Paola Trotti Taverna'.


CONDITION

In the original publisher's paper covered boards. Externally with a little loss to the spine. Minor marks to the boards and spine. Spine is lifting a little. Minor discolouration to the boards. Prior owner's ink inscription to the front pastedown. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with some odd spots and handling marks. Faint tidemark to the tail of gathering F.
