1927 G&D edition hardcover with original dust jacket ~ Previous owner name/date to ffep 12/25/28 - Blue boards with yellow titling to spine and cover with yellow pictorial of WW1 fighting plane - 277[pp] - Illustrated by Clayton Knight who was an American Aviator during WW1 - Interesting fact is that he is the father of illustrator Hilary Knight.

Based on my research it was only after Elliot Springs death that the truth became know about who wrote this story.  Springs himself had written War Birds as a novel based on Grider's unfinished diary and Springs' letters home, the unnamed central character an amalgam of the two men...................
