Our 'expanding type' pullers are an effective way of removing stuck outer bearing races after a bearing has split apart.
Bearings can split during removal for a variety of reasons; if the balls inside the bearing are excessively corroded or worn, or if the inner race is cracked, then failure is possible. Angular contact bearings, historically favoured by some brands such as Santa Cruz, are very strong in the direction that they are pressed into the frame but very weak in the direction of removal, and frequently split.
When a bearing splits apart it can be difficult to remove the remaining outer race from the frame or hub. The traditional methods are either to tap out the race with a screwdriver or to grind out the race with a Dremel. Both of these options risk damage to the frame or hub.
Our expanding pullers offer an easy and safe way to grip the remaining outer race. The tool and the race can then be brought out together by tapping on the tool with a drift, in just the same way that our tools are used to remove a complete bearing.
How to Use
The process below illustrates the removal of a complete bearing but the process is exactly the same for the removal of a stuck outer race - the only difference is in the size of tool selected.
The extractor tool is simple to use. As well as the extractor you will need a pair of spanners, a hammer and a rod/drift/old bolt.Selecting the Correct Tool
Tools can be selected either by the bearing's standard reference code.
Standard references take the form of a three or four digit number, such as 688, or 6902 for example. These codes are often moulded onto the bearing's seal. You might see something like 6902-2RS on the seal. The first digits are the standard reference.

Shipping
We dispatch orders on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The cut off for dispatch is usually 8am that day.
UK orders are sent by Royal Mail RM24 (First Class).
International orders are welcomed and will be sent by DHL GlobalMail or Royal Mail International Standard (Airmail). These shippers indicate that delivery in Europe should take 3-5 working days and the rest of the world in 5-7 working days, though realistically this is often 5-10 workings days and customs inspections can have an effect.
International orders will pay only once for shipping. Add two or more pullers, presses or kits to the basket to qualify.
Ebay collects tax on behalf of the EU, Norway, Australia, New Zealand and some US states, so your order should arrive in these countries with no further taxes to pay.
