Old Paris Porcelain Figurines

France

We offer a pair of French Rococo polychrome porcelain statues dating from the mid nineteenth century. The statues depict an artist and his lady Muse. The artist holds a paint palette and a brush and his lady is standing in pose. Each figurine stands aside a rectangular open mouth receptacle possibly used for potpourri or perfumed scents. The rectangular rococo bases are enriched with gilt detailing.
There are no markings to the porcelain, but the quality and detail of decoration are similar to the work of Jacob Petit.
The statues measure 6" in width, 4 7/8" in depth and 9" in height. There is normal minute crazing consistent with age. As seen in the photographs, there is minor rubbing to the gilt trim. While the artist is in mint condition, his Muse has an old restoration to her outstretched hand. It appears that the hand may be a replacement in a plaster of paris-like compound which has been painted to match. Otherwise, the statues are free of issues.
