Description:

  • This is a stunning piece I bought in Maryland at auction, intending it for a gift.

  • The Buddha is hand carved from a very interesting burl wood. Based on my research, it appears to be a wood called huanghuali. I have not found a way to test the wood, so I can only base my assumption on color, grain and patina. I must leave this assumption up to the buyer if the type of wood matters. It also seems to be similar to hongmu or zitan. Please note the grain which is is very, very fine.

  • The piece measures 17” x 15” with a depth of about 3”.  The piece weighs 6 pounds, 7 ounces.

  • The Buddha is beautifully carved in what seems to be the natural coloring of the wood. The deep red of the Buddha contrasts beautifully to the light-colored burl which looks a bit like an aura.

  • Having bought it at auction, I do not know the age. It has an interesting look which fits well in a modern or eclectic décor.

  • Attaches to the wall will one mount which is modern.

Condition:

  • Excellent and beautiful.

  • I have applied a light coat of lemon oil to nourish the piece which was a bit dry when I bought it.

  • Please review the pictures closely as they are part of the description.
