Antique porcelain Bavarian Enzian Schnapps decanter set, 6 shot cups/mugs and sculpted metal stand - circa 1872-1921

This offering is for an extremely rare and unusual antique porcelain Bavarian Enzian Schnapps decanter set, featuring a sculpted metal stand with ornate braided handle, cup hooks and tri-winged pedestal feet.

The decanter has an embossed hand painted floral design featuring the Enzian flower (native to the Austrian / Bavarian Alps) and antlered deer with braided neck. The six individual shot cups/mugs feature embossed hand painted rim design and hand painted handle features. The stop cork on top of the decanter is original, with hand painted Enzian floral design. The entire decanter and cup ensemble features a high glaze blended painted pattern, making this visually appealing.

The bottom of the decanter features the “MD” trademark, which may indicate that this is an early “Max Dannhorn” piece from the early 1900’s. The actual trademark was seldom applied to their early products and later products featured the center pine tree between the “M” and “D”. Products were manufactured by Max Dannhorn (Nuerenberger Metallwarenfabrik Max Dannhorn A.G. 1872-1921).

The six cups hang freely from the metal stand hooks. Three of the cups have cracks (repaired) with one cup missing small pieces due to damage from WWII bombing. This decanter set has survived two World Wars and the May 1944 bombing of Stuttgart, Germany. The attached photos below show the extent of the bomb damage inflicted upon the city and the total destruction of the neighborhood where the house of our family ancestors once stood (original location of decanter during WWII).
